By running two stories in parallel : that of a theatre troupe's difficulties in mounting a production of Musset's On ne badine pas avec l'amour in war ravaged Sarajevo, and that of a filmmaker struggling to finish shooting his film, with this film Jean-Luc Godard offers a meditation on cinema and on the ephemeral nature of art. And comes back to History, wondering about the causes of the conflict. A musical wander through this « capital of pain », For Ever Mozart owes its title to an unfinished project based on a Keith Jarret concert, and its fragmented structure to the fusion of several script ideas into one. Once again, the filmmaker handles the tools of cinema with virtuosity and engages in a dazzling demonstration of his ability to capture the elusive. |
